I know I am *really* late to this party, but can we please talk about Serial? As in, the podcast? If you haven't listened yet: I'm sorry, but you NEED to go listen now. So skip to the recipe and then go download Serial. If you HAVE listened: OMG OMG OMG. I seriously cannot get over it! Not just the case itself — and how screwy the prosecution was — but the whole podcast itself: I'm so impressed. I love how Sarah and the team go so far with each question they think of, not giving up at roadblocks but instead finding new questions to help get through to the next. I have total job envy right now.
{PS — Sarah, if you're reading this and somehow lose your voice forever and need a replacement: I AM YOUR LADY! Call me.}
But back to the actual case: WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK!? Did Adnan do it? I am so torn. And now there's this new exclusive interview with Jay (!!) ... which did not answer any of my questions. And now I feel like I need Sarah to narrate 45 minutes of analysis on his interview. Does it match the cell records? Did he introduce any new questions? Clearly I should have been taking notes while I was listening!
Before listening to Serial, I was definitely a closet crime mystery-lover. I loved The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, but thought that was a one-off. IT WAS NOT! I'm coming totally clean and admitting that I LOVE crime mysteries! Is that really even a term? I'm not sure I'll admit to liking crime thrillers because too much suspense is SCARY, but a good mystery with a who-dun-it = primo. I'm hooked. I have z.e.r.o. time for the next six weeks, but after that I'll be looking for suggestions!
If you find yourself binge-listening to Serial, which is a total reality now that it's out in it's entirety and you don't have to wait a week for the next episode (hallelujah for being late to this game, amiright?!), you're gonna need snacks. You can't really multi-task, if you're like me, because there are too many little details that you JUST CAN'T MISS! So listen closely. And make this popcorn to keep you company.
I made this after I saw GKS's dark chocolate sea salt popcorn and immediately thought "OMG I NEED THAT!" — I probably said something like that in #droolworthy — but when it came time to actually make it, I needed milk chocolate and I needed some red! This really could not be easier to make, though. Just pop the popcorn — make sure your chocolate is all chopped up and ready to go — toss it with salt, seasoning (paprika, in this case), and chocolate. The chocolate will melt all over and be the most glorious ooey-gooey treat. I'm actually thinking of going to escape to the kitchen and make some right now! Doesn't that sound amazing? I also like to think it's healthy, since popcorn is basically air. Right? Totally healthy. Also: totally something to snack on for NYE!
ENJOY! xo
PrintMilk Chocolate Paprika Popcorn
- Cook Time: 5 mins
- Total Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp coconut oil
- ⅓ cup corn kernels for popping
- salt
- 1 tsp paprika (or cayenne if you want more kick!)
- 4 oz. milk chocolate, finely chopped
Instructions
- In a deep saucepan with a lid, heat the coconut oil (make sure it is covering the entire bottom of the pan, add more if needed) and two corn kernels over medium heat.
- Once the kernels pop, add the remaining kernels, cover, and shake side to side a few times. As the kernels begin popping, shake the pan over the flame to keep anything from burning. If you need to, pour some of the popped corn to make room for the rest of it!
- As soon as all of the corn is popped, season generously with salt and the paprika, toss a few times to distribute, then add the chocolate. Mix slowly, letting it melt and disperse throughout the popcorn.
- Enjoy immediately, for a slightly messy snack, or allow to cool for a more finger-friendly snack.
