Apple Ginger Hemp Heart Smoothie

Are you ready? ... FOR ANOTHER MOOTHIE MONDAY!? Heck. Yes. Our daily routine here in Bali has been really nothing like a routine at all, EXCEPT for one daily constant: find an amazing smoothie. And drink it! Duh. That's what you do with smoothies. As I mentioned last week, Ubud has a huge healthfood scene — everything from raw and organic, to vegan or juice cleanses. The food quality here actually astounds me, and I'm so excited to be here right as we've made a decision to eat more "whole foods" ourselves. Serendipity, I tell you!

Anyways, the smoothies here are like smoothie on steroids. They all have crazy healthy ingredients {spirulina, maca, wheatgrass, etc.} as a normal part of the recipe. Or, you can add them into a smoothie that doesn't already have them! Delicious. I'm all about it! We're still stocking up on kitchen stuff, but I'm hoping/thinking that the high demand for healthy ingredients like these will make them more affordable — at least not astronomical like they were in Vietnam! I went to one of the (many) organic groceries in Ubud today and bought some tempeh — which is ridiculously expensive in the USA — and was pleasantly surprised to find it was the cheapest thing I bought. Seriously, $0.30 for what would be at LEAST a few dollars in the USA! Win win!

Back to (s)moothies. This smoothie will WAKE YOU UP! The ginger here is not messing around. It's not like your pumpkin spice latte that has a teeny tiny hint of ginger. NO. It's GINGER. Combat boot ginger to the mouth! You can see I didn't peel mine. I'm lazy. There's probably a good reason for peeling ginger, and I the morning I made this I chose to ignore it! Oopsies!

Just like with the pineapple turmeric hemp heart smoothie, I added hemp hearts here. Another good texture and protein and healthy-food addition! Read: it will fill you up. This smoothie is refreshing, bright, and don't tell coffee I said this, but you can probably use this as your morning wake-up instead! BAZINGA! That's the feeling your mouth has after drinking this. In a very, very good way.

Have a wonderful week!

Instead of hemp hearts - can I use ground flaxseed instead?

Sure! It'd be slightly different, but still a great healthy option! Enjoy! xo

Can you substitute something for the honey or would omitting it be ok?
